values and Mission of the CAB

Core Values

The CAB is organized to give the community of students at George Mason University an opportunity to serve the University through the adjudication of alleged cases of violations to the Code of Student Conduct for which the community, students included, has set as the behavior expectations for those students who voluntarily enter its doors.  The values of the CAB shall be set to support not only the mission of the entity but also the mission and values of University Life at George Mason and those of the greater community at large.  It is therefore that the membership of the CAB should espouse the following Core Values in order to carry out these missions:

  1. Foster Student Success

Through the adjudication process the CAB will be mindful of the overall success of all students involved in cases and of the community at large.

  1. Live and Act With Integrity

While performing the functions of the CAB it is vital that its members act and live with integrity on and off the board and in and out of the classroom.  This shall also include expectations of professionalism and to understand and follow strict confidentiality guidelines of the law and the University while serving on the board.

  1. Embrace Our Differences

The CAB will seek not only to embrace the differences of its members but those of the members of the community that come before them.

  1. Catch The Mason Spirit

The CAB will seek to catch the Mason spirit as leaders and members of the Mason community.  This spirit is a pride and excitement about being a part of such a community.  They will embrace collaboration among its members and among the greater Mason community.  They will seek to work together with respect and collegiality not only as an entity but also as part of the greater University team.

  1. Show You Care

A genuine ethic of care binds and unites the community.  This is true even when one of its members or groups violate the standards set forth by that community.  The CAB will seek not only to listen with their heads but with their hearts and make decisions accordingly.

  1. Dream Big

Innovation, invention, and imagination are the cornerstone of Mason.  The CAB will be motivated to initiate and adapt change driven new ideas as these ideas apply not only to its function but to the entity of the CAB and to the greater to the community as applicable to its mission.

  1. Celebrate Achievements

The CAB will acknowledge in meaningful ways the accomplishments of not only its members but of both those also those members of the community that come to be heard before them.

  1. Pursue Lifelong Learning

The CAB will encourage learning each and every day not only for the accused and the accuser but also for the life long learning of its members.

  1. Lead By Example

The members of the CAB, as leaders, must they themselves stand for the values and standards set forth by the community.  The members of the CAB must seek to espouse those values each and every day both in and out of the classroom.

Mission

The CAB is a diverse group of trained individuals who have voluntarily agreed to hear cases of alleged student misconduct as a means to provide accused students the opportunity to have their case heard by their peers.  It will be the mission of the CAB to do so with the previous stated values in mind all the while observing established protocol and procedures and within the published standards of the University.
